Artist - Ruth Heiner

TAS Artist Profile: Ruth Heiner

Ruth Heiner was born in the small south-east town of Goomeri near Kingaroy but lived most of her life in North Queensland. She grew up on her parents’ dairy farm so has always had a strong connection to the country.

Ruth has been painting professionally for approximately thirty years and has earned a reputation as one of Queensland’s leading artists.

Ruth’s paintings have an earthy quality which commands the attention of Australians and overseas collectors alike. The distinctive lifestyle and spectacular scenery Australians enjoy every day is Ms. Heiner’s favourite subject and she delights in art for its own sake, adding maturity to her self- taught style.

Ruth holds art classes and workshops for a large group of aspiring artists who meet at the studio. As with the images of ‘the land’ that she has collected in her travels Ruth is testimony to the old saying, ‘you can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl’.

Ruth was commissioned by Townsville Enterprise Limited to paint and record events of the first sitting of Queensland Parliament in Townsville in 2002. Also winner of numerous prizes, including the prestigious Castlemaine-Perkins “Pubs in Landscape; Charters Towers Goldfields Exhibition 1995; first prize in The Townsville Arts Society Dynasty Restaurant Award 2004 at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery. She has had numerous sell-out exhibitions, both solo and in conjunction with other artists, such as the late Denis Hardy, Tom McCauley, Peter Lawson, and Karen Foley, just to name a few.
